How many video PIDs can a single ASI Rx card receive?

A single ASI Rx card can receive a maximum of 8 video PIDs in total.

How many subtitle PIDs can an ASI Tx card output?

A single ASI Tx card can output a maximum of 8 subtitle PIDs in total.

What length of cable (Belden 8281) can the ASI Tx output drive?

The ASI Tx output can drive a length of cable up to 50 metres in total.

What are the switch settings on the ASI card?

The switches are not used on the ASI card.

Do the switch settings vary with different revisions?

No they do not as the switches are not used on the ASI card.

How can the settings in the on-board PROM be saved?

To save the settings:

  • Ensure that the write enable jumper (JP17) is fitted.
  • Add the line “SAVE” to the end of the .txt file that is sent to the card by the Server application.

What is the process to report issues where solutions have not been disclosed in this document?

If any issues are encountered there are a number of steps that can be taken.

Can the SDI card be used to blank VBI lines?

The SDI card will allow blanking of VBI data on specific lines. This functionality is configured using the piano switch on the front of the card. Refer to the manual for configuration information for this switch, or alternately please see below. Displaying the output on an oscilloscope will allow monitoring of which lines are passed. Please note that VBI line 318 cannot be blanked.

Can a line be blanked on one field only?

This cannot be achieved as lines are blanked as field pairs. For example to blank VBI line 6 then VBI line 319 must also be blanked.

How do the DIP switch settings relate to the blanked line numbers?

SW1.1 (Brown) relates to lines 6/319, SW1.2 (Red) relates to 7/320 and SW3.4 (Yellow) which relates to lines 25/338.

What are the connections to the SDI card?

Connector 5 is the SDI video input and connector 2 is the analogue video output.

Is it possible to suppress the ‘NO SYNC’ message on the video output when there is no SDI input?

This is possible on units with revision 8 firmware onwards. SW4.2 (Red) selects between black video with the ‘NO SYNC’ message and NO VIDEO. This allows the lack of video to be detected downstream for redundancy switching schemes etc. Unfortunately on units with revision 7F firmware or earlier the ‘NO SYNC’ message cannot be disabled.
