The first full HbbTV service in South East Asia offering advanced features is on-air on Vietnam’s state owned VTV, DVB-T2 network with the help of the Screen/Icareus partnership solution.
The UK based subtitling and interactive solutions manufacturer Screen and Finnish interactive television specialist Icareus partnered a year ago to unify their solution offering to provide a complete end-to-end advanced HbbTV service.
Screen’s HbbTV revenue generator and brand realisation tool, HbbTV Toolbox is supplied as standard with applications including live data video overlay, digital teletext, advertising applications and its second screen mobile gateway to deliver to smartphones and tablets.
The Toolbox enabled VTV BRAC to rapidly build a tailored World Cup application without the need of any prior coding knowledge.
The Screen solution integrates seamlessly with the Icareus Playout Suite, a robust, flexible and easy-to-use platform to manage PSI/SI generation and HbbTV Application delivery.
Icareus Playout is developed for operators and broadcasters requiring powerful management of the DVB multiplexes, channel lineups and HbbTV Delivery.
The supplied HbbTV applications include
• Red-button application offering an entry-point to all HbbTV services
• Enhanced EPG
• Games portal offering entertainment apps
• Facebook application to access via the television
• Multipass proxy – avoiding cumbersome retyping of user credentials on the TV remote.
The service has been future-proofed via the Icareus Suite platform allowing VTV BRAC to easily and quickly deploy new applications by avoiding the need to develop new applications from scratch.
Director for VTV BRAC, Mr Minh Anh said: “We are honoured to be leading the way in South East Asia by providing added-value services through leading-edge HbbTV technology.
