BroadStream Announces SubCaptioner, a New Automated Service for File-Based Transcriptions & Captions
Duluth, GA USA – 28 March 2023 – Integrated playout specialist, BroadStream Solutions, has launched SubCaptioner, a new online portal for automated transcripts, captions, subtitles and translation for file-based audio and video content. For the low price of $0.25 per minute, users can upload their audio or video files and receive a TXT, SRT and WebVTT file within minutes. Media files are processed by a faster than real-time speech engine that uses the latest in ASR technology to convert audio-to-text both accurately and quickly.

When news of this vulnerability surfaced our Team of Engineers and Developers immediately reviewed the code base for all of our products and solutions and we can confirm that this piece of code is not used anywhere in the products or solutions we have developed.
However, it has been detected in the EMS local license creation software provided by Thales and they have confirmed that a patch has already been created and installed on the servers that monitor and control the local EMS license network to eliminate the threat posed by the vulnerability.

WVIA Praises Workflow Improvements with VoCaption Automated Live Captioning
Duluth, GA, USA – November 08, 2021: PBS station WVIA in Pittston, PA went live recently with BroadStream’s VoCaption Automated Live Captioning Solution.
WVIA operates 3 channels using BroadStream’s OASYS Integrated Playout solution and serves Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Central Susquehanna Valley area. Broadcasting since 1966, WVIA has a long history of service to the community and surrounding area with local programming, educational programming, outreach and services.
In the broadcast world, workflows matter. If there are too many extra steps, friction or points of failure, both stress and anxiety levels ratchet up beyond the normal levels broadcasters face daily. This was especially true for Joe Glynn and his staff at WVIA when live captioning was needed. The amount of live captioning the station needed each week was limited but the work associated with getting live captions on-air was not.
The workflow necessary to launch live captioning each week included having someone call the captioning company to schedule the captioner, provide all the details including date and time of the show, length of the broadcast and arrange for testing prior to the show airing.
An engineer needed to be available at least 15 minutes before the show’s scheduled start to connect the call to the audio bridge and test the outbound audio, which often took a back-seat to microphone checks from the studio. The captioner was required to call-in prior to air to confirm they were available, which didn’t always happen, and connect to the caption encoder so the station could verify that captions would actually appear. If there were issues, those had to be resolved quickly. If the captioner was late it made things much more difficult and stressful and on several occasions shows aired without captions. WVIA viewed the live captioning process as too complicated with too many steps and points of failure and felt there must be a better solution.
To smooth out the workflows and problems associated with live captioning, WVIA selected BroadStream’s VoCaption, Automated Live Caption Solution. Joe Glynn, Chief Technology Officer at WVIA commented, “All of the problems and multiple extra steps necessary to put closed captions on-air for a live show were reduced to one single mouse click with VoCaption.” Glynn continued, “While VoCaption did offer us some cost savings, by far the biggest benefit was we now had full control of the process and no longer depended on an outside, 3rd party provider. This change reduced a previously frustrating and complex workflow to a single mouse click.”

Jim Pattison Broadcast Selects BroadStream’s OASYS for Playout

Two of the three stations, CHAT-TV in Medicine Hat, Alberta and CFJC-TV in Kamloops, British Columbia were launched in 2020. CKPG-TV, in Prince George, British Columbia is planned for a future date in 2021.

KRSU Launches OASYS Playout Virtually During Pandemic

BroadStream Solutions Withdraws from IBC 2020 Due to COVID-19
Our employees’ health and safety come first for us.
Duluth, GA USA – 14 May 2020 – Integrated playout specialist, BroadStream Solutions, announced today it will not attend the IBC 2020 Conference and Expo in Amsterdam for the safety and well-being of our employees.
“BroadStream is a family company, and despite the economic shutdown due to COVID-19 we have declared to all our staff that we are, all in this together,” according to David Bowes, President and CEO at BroadStream, “We view our whole team as essential, and as such no individual or team will be asked to do any more or less than any other – across all our offices in USA, Europe and India. We have been fortunate to be able to help many of our customers adapt to working from home by using our technology and our software. We have also helped many students study from home with special licenses. In addition, the generosity of our staff has enabled us to help the communities where we work, particularly reaching out to those people around us who are most at risk.
As many countries begin to open up and businesses start to move back to their offices, we are committed to ensuring that our staff remain safe and healthy. With this as our only priority, we have decided to cancel our plans to attend IBC 2020. We respect that other companies are making tough decisions, but we strongly urge those in our community to evaluate what is absolutely necessary and essential at this time of high risk.
We extend our blessings to all who work in our industry, whether partners, customers or competitors. May you all survive and thrive through 2020, staying safe, healthy and prosperous, and we very much look forward to demonstrating our exciting new products virtually this year.
